The University of Wollongong Debating Society will host the 2017 Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships for the first time ever! Taking place from 17th - 20th of April, this event draws its nickname from its timing around the Easter break and is hosted at a different city every year.
The tournament will welcome 430 university students from 20 institutions to Wollongong campus with six preliminary rounds of debating and adjudicating. Socials will also be a part of the event with a chance for students to mingle at some of Wollongong’s most chic establishments.
Events like these showcase the capacity the sport of debating has to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The broad range of topics debated within this competition particularly challenges students to explore issues that they might not normally cover in their degree.
Congratulations to the Debating Society for putting on such a great event and best of luck to our UOW team!
