SWORDS (Students of Wollongong Organised Recreational Debating Society) will send its largest-ever contingent to the World Universities Debating Championship in Mexico City this December 27th to January 4th.

The two teams (Dimitrious Charles and Ben Hewitt; Lucy Cowen and Sri Kanda Raj) and adjudicator (Charlie Gonzalez) will be competing in a pool of over 400 teams from 90 countries around the world.

It will be a long trek for UOW International student Sri Kanda Raj who will fly from Malaysia to help the SWORDS team at the tournament despite having graduated in July.

The debates will be structured in a typical British Parliamentary style consisting of four teams of two (two affirmative and two negative) on a topic chosen by the most senior judges at the competition. They will have only 15 minutes to prepare!

The nine preliminary rounds will take place over three days before the final 48 teams are announced.

This announcement follows a great year for SWORDS. This year, they sent their largest contingents ever to Australs and Wom*ns and hosted a fantastic EASTERS for the first time ever.

UniClubs wishes SWORDS the best at the tournament!
