The Red Cross Blood Service set a new record for blood donation collections after it set up camp outside URAC Sports Hub last week.
The drive collected a total of 218 blood donations which smashed its first visit in 2017 of 148 donations.
Community Relations Officer Jarrod Flynn applauded supporters and promoters of the drive saying that the service team was “very happy with the result” and that the donations will help save the lives of 654 patients.
The service marked the inauguration of C&S’s 'Blood Challenge' which encouraged UOW clubs and societies to get involved in the blood drive.
Leading the challenge with the largest number of donations is the Red Cross Club followed by the Mathematics Society in second place. Ballerz, Accounting Society, Animal Rights Society and the Harry Potter Society are drawing in third place and competing for fourth place are clubs Enactus, Dramatic Society and the Tennis Club.
We would like to thank the Red Cross Club who kept contributors sustained with a hearty BBQ on Tuesday and congratulate all other clubs and volunteers for supporting the event.
