UOW Toastmasters Humorous Speech and Table Topics Competition, Wednesday 7th of August
With a number of fantastic contestants, both old and new, the 2013 UOW Toastmaster Humorous Speech and Table Topics competition was something for the history books!
Following shortly after a complimentary Pizza dinner, the Humorous Speech competition showcased some of the finest speakers UOW Toastmasters had to offer, delivering a medley of topics ranging from an insightful contemplation of the de-evolution of modern speech and mixed metaphor to a most fascinating re-imagining of The Sound of Music.Competition was fierce, the diverse range of topics demonstrative of the unique style of each speaker. Every speech was well received, the laughter each inspired served as a credit both to the speakers, and the club as a whole. In this case, a hard fought victory left the tried and tested Neil Grant crowned in joy and merriment as the winner of the 2013 UOW Humorous Speech Competition.
Following a short break, the contest was resumed as the contestants prepared themselves to face the harrowing Table Topics contest. Having had ample opportunity to hone their impromptu public speaking skills at our regular weekly meetings, the contestants performed admirably, demonstrating not only the traits of a competent communicator, but also the capacity for quick thinking and presence of mind which will serve them in good stead throughout their future careers.
The evenings question, 'What are the best things in life?', provoked a wide variety of thoughtful and dignified answers, with a hard-fought victory going to Luke Rossetto, whose colourful meanderings on the meaning of life demonstrated considerable sangfroid.
UOW Toastmasters would like to again congratulate our contestants, and wish our finalists the best of luck for the upcoming Area Humorous Speech and Table Topics Competition.
