The UOW Hapkido Club is a dedicated martial arts club that offers the opportunity to receive exceptional training in the martial art of Hapkido. Our club encourages a culture of self-development, and respect for both yourself, and others.
Hapkido is known as the art, or way, of coordinated power. It is a modern Korean martial art based on the principles of non-resistance, circular motion, and fluidity of movement. It is characterised by both powerful kicks and strikes, as well as dynamic throws, takedowns, locks, chokes, and pressure points. People train for fun, fitness, and self defence, and classes include strength and fitness work, as well as technical self defence training. The practice of Hapkido as a martial art develops a strong mind as well as a powerful body.

The UOW Hapkido Club is a world class martial arts club that offers exceptional training opportunities. We began as students of Hapkido, and whilst learning discovered the incredible benefits of martial arts: from improving physical strength, fitness, and flexibility, to developing confidence, resilience, and mindfulness.
Our goal is to offer students the same opporunity to explore the martial art of Hapkido, and develop themselves to their full potential as martial artists. We are committed both to our own continued training, as well as fostering a safe, friendly environment in which our students can feel supported to achieve their own goals. Whether you are interested in strikes, takedowns, joint locks, kicking, physical fitness and mobility, self defence, discipline, or managing stress, UOW Hapkido is the club for you. We understand that people train for many different reasons, and we won't judge you.
Our classes are open to everyone, and we welcome people from all walks of life - whether you are a complete beginner, or an advanced practitioner. Our only requirement is that you help us to create a training environment that fosters both hard work, and respect.
Our club reflects our underlying belief in the value of martial arts as a way in which to better ourselves, both physically, and personally - building psychological resilience, physical ability, and respect for others.

MEET THE EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONER THAT LEADS UOW HAPKIDO
Sir Iolo has been training in the martial arts for over a decade. He is a 1st Dan Black Belt in the art of Hapkido, continues his formal training in BJJ, and has also studied in the martial arts of Judo and Aikido. Sir Iolo teaches both kids and adults classes, and believes that individuals should have the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge at every stage of their lives. With a background in applied psychology, Sir Iolo is uniquely qualified to help you set, and achieve your goals - whether they be fitness, strength, flexibility, or developing practical self-defence skills.
